What We Look for in a Script (And What Makes Us Pass)

Introduction

At Fragrant Film, we review a lot of scripts. Some make it through. Some don’t. But why? What makes a script stand out, and what are the red flags that make us pass?

What We Look For

Compelling Storytelling: Does it grip us from the start?
Strong Visual Elements: Can we see the movie in our heads?
Marketability: Does this have a clear audience and distribution potential?

What Makes Us Pass

🚫 Unclear Narrative: If we can’t follow the story, the audience won’t either.
🚫 Heavy Exposition: Show, don’t tell.
🚫 Unrealistic Budget Needs: If the script requires a billion-dollar production but doesn’t have built-in ROI potential, it’s a tough sell.

Final Thoughts

A great script is tight, visual, and marketable. If you’re submitting to us, make sure your script is ready for production.
